IBADAN, Nigeria (Dow Jones)- A Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, or MPN, management team has held talks with the governor of Nigeria’s Delta region Akwa Ibom state on a proposed gas-to-gasoline plant, a company spokesman said Monday.

“I am aware a Mobil team held discussions with Akwa Ibom state governor on the project,” Yemi Fakayejo, MPN public affairs adviser told Dow Jones Newswires, but gave no further details.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) Chairman and Chief Executive Rex Tillerson, during a visit to President Umaru Yar’Adua in Abuja March 28, said his company planned to build such a plant in Nigeria.
Tillerson said the plant would have the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of gasoline a day from natural gas. He didn’t say where the plant would be built, the cost or when work on it would start.
Tillerson said there would be other byproducts such as liquefied petroleum gas from the plant. Yar’Adua directed the country’s Ministry of Petroleum to start talks immediately with Exxon Mobil on the construction of the plant.
Mobil is the second largest producer in Nigeria after Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB). It has a production output of about 866,000 barrels a day.
